It's hard to imitate the strong rough vocals of the late great Janis Joplin. The legend, who passed away at the age of 27 in 1970, isn't referred to as a queen of rock 'n' roll for no reason.
So when Alisan Porter decided to cover one of Joplin's songs on NBC's The Voice, she was certainly taking a chance. She would quickly be compared to Joplin, as singers usually are when covering one of the greats.
But Porter nailed her take on "Cry Baby," a song first recorded by Garnet Mimms and the Enchanters and later performed by the rock goddess.
From the minute Porter sang the first note, it was clear this would be a performance to remember. And just wait til you hear her belting those notes starting around the 1:35 mark — simply incredible. Coach Christina Aguilera couldn't hold back her excitement and gave her mentee at standing ovation.
The talented contestant instantly became a season 10 fan favorite when she auditioned with "Blue Bayou." Her powerful vocals blew all four coaches away. And Porter simply kept impressing America in the weeks to come, most memorably when performing a cover of Joni Mitchell’s "River." There's no denying this woman can sing!
