We’ve told you about some pretty crazy ways to play with your food before. After all, summertime is about taking advantage of the growing season and eating as many delicious fruits and veggies as you possibly can before the snowpocalypse returns to the Eastern seaboard.
That’s why we’ve given you this insanely useful hack for cutting bell peppers, because we care about whether you are enjoying your summer to the fullest possible extent. (To that end, you may also be interested in this summer cocktail recipe.) However, we know deep down that there is no possible way anyone could enjoy their summer without watching this amazing video of an unconventional way to crack open a watermelon
Supposedly inspired by a Japanese trick for slicing watermelon, these young mad scientists decided to wrap nearly 500 rubber bands around the innocent melon. Watch what happens at the 1:07 mark — bet you weren’t expecting that! And then watch it all again in slow-mo.
Honestly, this may not be the most practical trick from the perspective of actually eating the food item in question, but it would be an excellent summer activity for those in the 7–12 range. Send them outside (far outside, preferably) and see what happens next. I guarantee that you will be making frequent visits to the produce aisle for this summer and many summers to come.
