Baby’s Ultrasounds Come Back Normal, But Her Skin Hardens And Cracks Seconds After Birth

Jennie Wilklow and her husband expected a completely normal childbirth. Their unborn daughter's ultrasounds showed no signs of trouble.

In the fall of 2017, Jennie's water broke at 34 weeks. Since baby Anna was in breech position, the doctors performed a C-section. Everything went smoothly.

Anna let out a nice big cry, and it seemed the hardest part was over. "She's beautiful," the nurse said.

But then Jennie heard the sound of concerned, muffled voices from behind the curtain and knew something wasn't right.

Just minutes after Anna was born, her skin began cracking and hardening to the point her eyes were swollen shut and her eyelids flipped inside-out. She was quickly losing circulation in her hands and feet. The medical team frantically tried to diagnose her in the midst of all the panic and confusion.
