Couple Dedicates 70 Days To Raising Two Abandoned Baby Squirrels

In 2013, George was working on a traffic light pole in Denver, Colorado when he realized a squirrel nest had somehow gotten destroyed deep inside the pole. Down at the very bottom fell two tiny abandoned baby squirrels. They were just a few days old at the time. But instead of ignoring them and continuing with his work like many others would, George decided to dig in, scoop up the helpless babies and bring them home.

With the help of his wife Patty and their two faithful canine companions, George spent the following days researching what to do next, and how to raise squirrels by hand. George and Patty's goal was to give the babies — who they named Freddie and Ginger — a fighting chance. This required around-the-clock care, delicate feedings, and lots of love and affection. The couple proceeded to document the experience in videos on YouTube, each day capturing the incredible progress as Freddie and Ginger grew up to be healthy, happy beloved members of the Holt household… even if it was temporary.

On November 13, 2014, George and Patty drove Freddie and Ginger to the Squirrel Creek Wildlife Rescue. By that point, the couple dedicated more than 70 days to rescuing, rehabilitating and raising the pair of miracle babies. The goodbye was bittersweet, to say the least.
