The city of Baltimore has been under siege since Monday, April 27, and as Baltimore burned, rioters were running from store to store smashing windows and stealing property. When a group of rioters began to smash a car, the cops rolled into the picture.
Though the mob quickly dispersed, CNN managed to capture some intense footage of an officer taking down one of the rioters. And you have to admit that the police officers in this video definitely deserve some respect for their perseverance in chasing down a suspect!
The riots all started due to the death of Freddie Gray, which the protestors and rioters claimed was caused by police brutality and racism.
Police encountered Gray on the morning of April 12. When Gray attempted to flee on foot, police managed to catch up to him and take him down. Later on, witnesses said that they had witnessed Gray being beaten with batons and being "folded up."
Gray later died in police custody, his cause of death being associated with the fact that his spine was 80% severed at the neck. He died April 19, and when his funeral occurred on April 27, despite pleas from his grieving mother for everyone to be peaceful, riots quickly began and any thought for peace was thrown out the window.
As the police officers continue to try to keep the peace in Baltimore, more scenes like this are becoming normal. Luckily, the cops in this video are all safe and managed to arrest a few of the more dangerous rioters.
