Moving digital billboards and advertisements are the latest craze to get consumer attention. An ad for Swedish shampoo Apolosophy got a lot of attention earlier this year by showing a woman's hair blowing beautifully in the wind whenever a train arrived. Now, it has inspired another intriguing display.
The concept has been repurposed by Barncancer Fonden — a Swedish nonprofit that raises money to fight childhood cancer — for an even more important message. In the video, commuters stop in their tracks upon seeing the new digital ad, but it has a shocking twist ending.
The ad by Barncancer Fonden features a 14-year-old girl named Linn whose hair starts whooshing as trains speed past — until, suddenly, her hair flies off completely. Most of the people in the video gasp when they see the girl's hair was just a wig. The campaign reminds commuters that every day a child is diagnosed with cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second leading cause of death in children, and about "10,380 children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2015." Approximately 1,250 children younger than 15 years old will die as a result of cancer in 2015. These statistics are difficult, but the more attention we can bring to organizations doing good work to fight against this disease, the better!
