World War II was by far the most devastating conflict Earth has ever seen. Leaving millions dead and swaths of destruction on multiple continents, the effects of this war have been longstanding since its end over 70 years ago.
In Europe, one of the most devastated cities was the last Nazi stronghold: the capitol of Berlin. The red army was pushing through with all of their might, uncaring of the damage and loss of human life; the Americans were pushing in as well, beating back the last remnants of the once-feared SS shock troops.
When Berlin was finally taken, Hitler lay dead and the allies had their European victory. As the world began to slowly pick up the pieces, the amount of damage was truly breathtaking.
In the amazing footage below, you can see the true extent of the damage. Nearly every single building is either a broken husk, or heavily damaged, as the inhabitants attempt to live their lives in this broken world, we can't help but imagine our own homes and cities in a similar state.
This beautifully restored colored footage shows us just how "real" this catastrophic war was, and at the 6:09 mark, when you see the damage from a bird's eye view, you really will find this whole video truly shocking.
