Bill O’Reilly Defends Donald Trump’s Statements About Mexican Immigrants

Donald Trump infuriated many when he made controversial statements against Mexicans, but not Bill O’Reilly. The Fox host defended the Republican presidential candidate during a segment on his show, The O'Reilly Factor.

Mr. O’Reilly attempted to give some background to several statements Trump made during his presidential announcement speech. Trump, who is known for rarely biting his tongue, famously said, “They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people.”

“The main mistake Mr. Trump made in his campaign kickoff speech was speaking too generally about the border problem,” O’Reilly said, later adding, “It’s not ordinary Mexicans doing the raping. It’s the gangsters. Mr. Trump should have made that clear.”

To further defend Trump’s words, O’Reilly mentioned Mexico’s ongoing issues with illegal drugs and his belief that a “non-existent” border security in Mexico is gravely hurting the United States. Additionally, he spoke about Kate Steinle, a 32-year-old who was fatally shot in July 2015 in San Francisco by an undocumented immigrant who had been deported five times.

“Finally, the poor people sneaking in here to paint your house aren’t the problem. The cowardly politicians who will not uphold the law and the Constitution are the problem,” O’Reilly said. “That’s what Donald Trump should have said.”
