Deputy Is On The Lookout For A Boy Who Paid For His Breakfast

This past weekend, a little boy and his dad were standing next to BSO deputy Donnie Jackson at their local Dunkin' Donuts. When Jackson went to pay for his coffee and bagel, he heard the little boy say, "Dad, I'm gonna pay for his breakfast." The deputy looked down at the boy, smiled, and politely declined — but the boy insisted on paying, as a sign of appreciation and respect.

What the little boy didn't know was that Jackson is a bona fide hometown hero. In 2003, he saved two young boys after their car fell into a canal. Jackson was off-duty at the time. The 16-year veteran of the Broward Sheriff's Office was floored by the little boy's selflessness and asked to take a picture with him. Now, the officer is on a mission to identify and reunite with the boy and his father and give them a copy of the photo, on which he's written a message of gratitude.

Since posting the photo on Facebook, Jackson's story is going viral. "You only hear about the bad cops today, but there are so many good ones out there," said one bystander.
