Ever since Cohen Mahoney was a toddler, he’s been absolutely enraptured by the gigantic, colorful garbage trucks that roll through his hometown of Lafayette, LA. He’s very meticulous about recycling, and never misses garbage day.
"Every time we drive somewhere, he's pointing out the different trucks, and he'll look at the different garbage cans," says his mom, Candace Mahoney.
This time, though, his beloved waste workers are giving back to him in a big way.
Cohen noticed a garbage truck making an unscheduled stop just outside his house. "When I saw it, I thought we forgot to put out our trash!” he said, but it turned out to be much better. His heroes had arrived with gifts for his birthday!
Some of my all-time favorite videos include children who receive incredible surprises like this one. If you’re in the mood for a real tear-jerker, there’s the boy whose soldier brother popped in unannounced to a baseball game. Then, there’s the child with cancer who gets the chance to become an honorary firefighter.
It’s heartwarming to see adults come together in order to bring joy to young people! And Cohen’s mom agrees. "To come and do something like that for a kid that age, […] it really is exciting for him," she said.
It’s undeniable that Cohen enjoyed the visit, especially when he received clothing with his name monogrammed on the fabric.
