Boy Heroically Saves Teen From Drowning In A Community Pool

Knowing how to swim is a valuable tool. There are many situations in which this skill may be needed, and it's not just a fun activity in which to take part with friends and family. Sure, it's useful on a hot summer's day, but knowing how to swim can save your life or another's.

Some people learn how to swim earlier than others, if at all. Eleven-year-old Angel Rivera learned how to when he was just 6 years old, which is perhaps earlier than most. And it was his early start most likely contributed to his heroic rescue of a drowning teen in a community pool.

The pool was supposed to be closed, but many people, parents and children alike, had hopped the low fence to bathe in the cool water. But in the pool was a figure that had sunk to the bottom.

Rivera says that the figure was "floating like a star."

In a quick succession of events, the little boy realized that an older girl was drowning, and jumped in to save her. He pulled her to the surface, and after CPR and the arrival of the authorities, she was brought to the hospital. The girl is expected to be fine!

The hero 11-year-old is wise beyond his years. He cautions, "That’s the lesson learned today. You need an adult or a lifeguard to be with you. At that moment you never know."
