New moms everywhere know that wherever they go they will suffer the stigma of breastfeeding, if that is a practice they choose to adopt.
For some reason we can't quite understand, many are bothered by the sight of a mother lovingly feeding her child, only minimally exposing herself in public.
And at times, they are horrified when they are asked to move or exit a store or restaurant — all because they couldn't allow their child to go hungry.
Canadian mom Alexandra Shimo was subjected to this stigma when attending an event at the Lambton Golf and Country Club. She got up to quietly feed her infant son, Jacob, in the hallway.
Then the manager came up to her. He told her that some patrons felt uncomfortable seeing her breastfeed while they ate dinner.
The manager proceeded to escort the horrified and embarrassed mom to the basement, covered by a tablecloth.
Shimo's partner, Lia Grimanis, found the mom on a couch, still nursing their baby, and took a photo of her. In the photo, she is almost completely covered. The photo has gotten the attention of moms and breastfeeding advocates all over the world who are disappointed in how the situation was handled.
The couple is asking for the club's policies to change so other moms don't have to feel the same pain as Shimo did that night.
Please SHARE if you think moms should have the right to nurse their hungry babies wherever they please!
