Mom Goes To Doctor For Breech Baby, Then He Moves Fetus Back With His Hands

Liam Muckleston recorded his wife's doctor visit at Royal Sussex Hospital in Brighton, United Kingdom. At 36 weeks and three days, the baby had entered breech position. Any mother knows that a breech birth can cause some serious issues during labor.

Breech position occurs when the infant is in the mother's womb foot, knees, or bottom first. During a pregnancy without complications, a baby should be born head first. While it is safest to perform a C-section during a breech birth, complications like umbilical cord prolapse, oxygen deprivation, and injury to the brain and skull can occur.

Thus, if the infant can be flipped to the proper position before delivery, it is of the utmost importance. Which is why it is all the more incredible that the doctor in this video below performed an external cephalic version (ECV) in just minutes.

As you might have guessed, an ECV is when a doctor uses his or her bare hands to flip the baby externally by massaging the mother's belly.

First, the doctor injects the mother with tocolytic medicine to relax the uterus and prevent contractions. Then, he pushes down and rolls the fetus.

It's pretty incredible to watch. The baby is clearly breached in the first ultrasound. After a few minutes of massaging and moving Mom's belly — causing a few giggles in the process — the ultrasound clearly shows that the baby is now in the proper birthing position!
