As Kelly Clarkson points out, we’ve all seen the classic rom-com about a bride who’s been left at the altar and is completely heartbroken, but what if there was a different way to go about things?
This segment from The Kelly Clarkson Show tells the story of Kayley from Wales, who was left by her partner an hour before her wedding but refused to let all of the trappings of a good party go to waste.
In a video interview, Kelly couldn’t help but note that most brides would feel utterly devastated after being stranded on their wedding day, but it was clear from the viral video footage that Kayley was not about that self-pity game.
“To be fair, it was just more about what the day [became]. It was learning what true … self-love is. That’s what I learned from that day,” Kayley explains.
She notes that she had planned this wedding day for over two years with her then-partner. After she woke up with a group of her girlfriends and bridesmaids the morning of the big day, his father informed her that the groom wouldn’t be attending. And this was less than two hours before the wedding was scheduled to take place.

After a little pep talk with her sister, Kayley decided that she wanted to go through with the big party and celebrate with those who showed up for her.
“I had worked my socks off for this day and I was excited to spend time with my family. And I was looking forward to the nacho bar,” Kayley explains with a smile.
