A few children aren’t attending school on this particular day, but the reason isn’t quite as sinister as it may sound. They’re participating in a project to spread good cheer to the residents in their local community. All too often, we can find ourselves caught up in the hustle and bustle between work and home — only to miss out on the enjoying the small moments that make life worth living. That's what these young people are hard at work combating.
“Would you like a flower?” a boy asks, approaching a woman at random in the hopes that this small gesture might brighten her day a little. When asked what the flower was for, he responded, “It’s for random acts of kindness. Have a lovely day!” And, indeed, that answer alone instantly inspired a smile from her in reply.
Many times, young kids are the ones who lead incredible initiatives such as this one. They always show immense maturity when seeing those in need, like the children who elected to give up their field trip when their sick classmates couldn’t go, or the kids who washed cars to raise money for a man experiencing homelessness in their community.
"We got hugs from somebody [and] we got loads of smiles as well," a boy describes of the experience. The fact that this was reward enough for a few good deeds? Totally brings a smile to my face, too.
