Baby’s Mouth Burned From Chewing On Phone Charger So Mom Posts An Urgent Warning About Cords

We all know that no one is perfect. This goes for parents especially. You don't even need to have had kids to know that accidents happen.

Kids, especially those under the age of 5, have a knack for getting into dangerous stuff. Even if your home is impeccably childproofed, it just takes two seconds for a toddler to swallow aspirin or tumble down the stairs.

These are the nightmares that keep parents up. Still, the truth is that most kids do live to tell tales like these. What's most important is that parents and kids learn from these experiences.

Some moms decide to do this by sharing their stories online to help others going through the same thing, like this mom who learned how to deal with guilt after dropping her baby.

Another mom who decided to share her cautionary tale is Courtney Davis, who posted a now viral message about her daughter chewing a phone charger cord that resulted in some nasty electrical burns. Now, she is begging other parents to keep their cords far out of reach.

Courtney Davis, a Kentucky mom, took to Facebook to share rather gory photos of what happened to her 19-month-old daughter who chewed on a phone charger.

In the post, Courtney said:

So I wasn’t going to post about this until I posted in a mom group and found out many parents don’t think twice about the danger of a phone charger around children.

On Sept 28th my 19 month old stuck my phone charger in her mouth. We went to the Dr who confirmed that it was an electrical burn there was nothing they could put on it due to her being able to lick it.

Any other day my charger wouldn’t have been plugged up in her reach but bc of a bunch of stuff going on that day I didn’t have time to move it.

It took all of a few seconds for her to get burned.

She had never tried to put it in her mouth and she had never messed with it. The one day it isn't moved she stuck it in her mouth and got a severe burn.

She doesn’t feel it thank God hasn’t acted like it bothers her at all.

**Parents, Grandparents, babysitters etc please put your chargers up out of reach. My daughter was lucky the next kid may not be as lucky as her.

Courtney has since shared updates regarding Gabby's healing. In the first update she wrote:

Gabby’s mouth is looking better. We have an appt tomorrow with her pediatrician to see about getting a referral to a specialist. She still acts like it doesn’t hurt.

There were so many people concerned about Gabby that Courtney didn't even have time to reply to all of the messages.

She says:

To everyone messaging me please know that I have read most messages I just haven’t had time to reply. I will continue to update this post as things progress. A new picture of her mouth has been added to the comments.

Courtney shared yet another update to let people know how Gabby was doing:

Gabby saw the doctor this morning and while it definitely looks better now than it did we will still be referred to a plastic surgeon to get another opinion and further care for this.

Luckily, Gabby is now OK. What we can learn from this is to keep chargers out of reach of small children, even if it's just for a second.

We all know babies like to chew things, and this story proves that a curious child can be badly injured by a charger in the time it takes Mom to grab something from the other room.
