Supermodel Cindy Crawford took a trip down memory lane, sharing her vivid recollections of visiting Kensington Palace and meeting a teenage Prince William. The nostalgic moment comes after Cindy’s name was referenced in season six of the popular Netflix series, The Crown.
In an Instagram post, the 57-year-old icon recounted the experience of visiting Kensington Palace to meet Princess Diana and a young William, who had just discovered the allure of supermodels. The meeting was revisited on The Crown, featuring a scene where Prince Phillip, played by Jonathan Pryce, engages with grandson William, portrayed by Ed McVey, about his newfound fascination with supermodels.
In the scene, Phillip takes note of posters on William’s dorm wall featuring iconic supermodels, including Cindy Crawford. Phillip playfully remarks, “Nothing to be ashamed of,” before inquiring about the models’ names. The teenage prince lists Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell, prompting Phillip to share his generation’s equivalents.
The real-life encounter between Prince William and supermodels, including Cindy, occurred when he was around 12 or 13. In a 2017 documentary, William admitted to feeling “awestruck” by their presence and shared a humorous memory of being flustered during their meeting.
Cindy, who had previously shared a throwback photo from the royal visit in 2017, expressed her thoughts on meeting Princess Diana. She recalled Diana reaching out to her office personally, inviting her for tea at Kensington Palace. The supermodel believed it was a delightful surprise for the young princes, William and Harry, who were just starting to notice models. Describing Princess Diana as a “class act,” Cindy highlighted that Diana exemplified the qualities of a modern-day princess.

The reference to these real-life events in The Crown has garnered attention, especially with Prince Harry reportedly choosing not to watch the show’s final season. However, sources clarify that Harry harbors no ill feelings toward the creators or Netflix, indicating sensitivity to the portrayal of certain content in the series.
As The Crown continues to captivate audiences, it remains a delicate balancing act between historical drama and the personal memories of those involved.
