The Ivory Coast is one of the biggest exporters of cocoa beans, but sadly, many of the poor farmers who harvest the cocoa bean, the main ingredient in chocolate, have never tasted the final outcome of all their hard work. Chocolate is a very expensive luxury for farmers who can make only around 7 Euros a day, and who have to support family and people who work for them. Many of the people harvesting the cocoa bean have no idea what it actually gets turned into – they've heard stories, but no one has ever shown them first hand.
In this amazing video, a news organization visits a small village and cocoa farmer, and lets them taste chocolate for the first time. Their reactions are amazing! They obviously enjoy it very much, and it's sad that the candy we take for granted here in the United States is such a rarity for them.
While a lot of this video is sweet, it's a good reminder to always try to buy chocolate and other food that is fairly traded from other countries – that way, the farmers at the beginning of the process are compensated a healthy amount, and have enough money to live comfortably, which is something everyone deserves!
