Our bodies hide many secrets from us, but we seem to have a very good idea of how to take care of them as best we can. We know that drinking a lot of water, staying out of the cold, and eating right will keep them running and in top form. Occasionally, we get sick, but getting a cold every so often isn't usually cause for alarm.
That's perhaps what mom and wife Nicholle Anderson thought when she started experiencing common symptoms of a cold, such as congestion, night sweats, and fatigue.
She also knew that these symptoms are common during pregnancy.
But when Nicholle miscarried and the cold persisted, she knew a doctor's visit was in order. That's when a lump in her throat was discovered. A biopsy revealed that she had a rare cancer: nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Nicholle Anderson, a mother and the wife of Ottawa Senators goalie Craig Anderson, felt a cold coming on during her pregnancy.
She believed it was normal, as many pregnant women experience congestion, night sweats, fatigue, coughing, and a dry mouth while with child.
But about a month after the symptoms appeared, she miscarried, and the symptoms persisted.
A doctor's visit confirmed that it wasn't just a cold. She had a lump in her throat, which is a sign of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
The cancer is linked to the Epstein-Barr virus, which is also responsible for mononucleosis.
Nicholle is extremely lucky to have caught her cancer when she did. In wonderful news, she is responding well to her treatment.
