A 38-year-old motorcyclist is expected to make a full recovery after being saved by Cpl. Robert Sigler, who is also a Navy veteran.
Sigler, of the Cleburne Police Department in Texas, found Dan Echols in a very bad state and feared the worst.
“I thought he may have been dead because he wasn’t responding to anything,” Sigler told Fox 4 News.
And like the officer who saved an 84-year-old suffering a heart attack, this one leapt into action. He quickly ran to his patrol car and grabbed a tourniquet. The compressing device, which is used to stop blood from gushing out, saved the man’s life, according to doctors.
Body cam footage shows the moment Sigler wrapped the tourniquet around the wounded man's leg. It was necessary for Sigler to fasten it very tightly to ensure it was effective, hence why Echols let out a slight yelp of pain.
"The things we use overseas in the desert, these lifesaving tools that every soldier, every Marine, every sailor has are these kits, pretty much identical to what we got for the police department, and so bringing that background with it, police officers on the street need that,” said Lt. Gary Moseley from the department.
The moment meant a lot for Sigler, who told the news station, "Very rarely do we get to help people to this point. Generally, we are the bad guy."
