What you're about to see is one of the most savvy football plays of your lifetime.
The best part? It's executed by a bunch of middle schoolers.
In the third quarter of the middle school championship, Driscoll middle school, in Corpus Christi, TX, was losing 0–6.
Instead of surrendering, they decided to do something bold.
"They marked out five yards, but then [Eighth-grade quarterback Jason Garza] tells the center they're marking out five more yards," says football coach Art Rodriguez.
Sometimes during a game tricking your opponent is the only way to get what you want. In the case of this basketball player, he faked out his opponent so that he could propose to her.
These middle-schoolers didn't have intensions quite as sweet but they were equally as impressive.
Then Garza executed one of the best fake outs I've ever seen. I'm not going to spoil it, you're going to have to watch the short video of the play below.
The "Penalty Play" was created by assistant coach John Delosantos.
"This is first time we ever tried it… And it worked," Rodriguez said.
Footage of the trick went viral, gaining over 20 million views on Youtube. It even stirred conversations about good sportsmanship.
Is this kind of play fair to the other team? Either way, Driscoll was happy to have pulled it off.
"This has been one of the highlights [of my 31-year] career," Rodriguez said.
Watch the video below and SHARE if you thought that was one clever team of eighth-graders!
