Christmas music, as a whole, is a lighthearted affair, filled with soothing tones and warm melodies.
But in the case of Jeff Hilliard and his daughter, Melody, Christmas music is anything they want it to be — as long as it makes them happy.
After noticing that his young daughter was having a bad day, Jeff decided to record the pair performing a duet in their home in Plymouth, MA.
The song? The classic holiday tune "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."
But the Hilliards' rendition was anything but classic.
In the video below, you can see Jeff pull up his acoustic guitar. He then asks little Melody to tell the viewers that "Daddy and I are going to sing you a song."
The pair soon start a countdown, with Jeff strumming his guitar.
Suddenly, they begin to sing at the top of their lungs, and Melody can barely contain herself as they tear through the Christmas song, making it uniquely theirs.
The punk-rock-style approach the Hilliards take to "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" includes screams, shouts, and rapid-fire guitar strumming, as well as tongues sticking out of mouths.
Melody even runs out of breath because she's so excited!
Moments like these are what keep Jeff going, as he is a recovering alcoholic who has been sober for some time now.
"I'm a single dad and recovering alcoholic," he said. "Just love making my daughter's life the best it can be."
