Parents have the responsibility of making sure their children are as safe as possible in the car. That's one of the reasons why this story is so heartbreaking — because this could have happened to any parent with young children.
Tu Hoang Lam was buckling his 6-year-old in their car when another car struck him in the parking lot. The car appeared to accidentally accelerate, pinning him down for 10 excruciating seconds before driving away. The event has been labeled a hit-and-run, and the driver at fault is hopefully living with the guilt until they're eventually found.
After witnessing the crash, Tu's son didn't talk for two days. It's said that the family is still trying to recover from the emotional devastation of the incident.
Hopefully, it's something that his children will eventually feel comfortable with, as Tu's leg had to be amputated just above the knee after it happened. There was also a lot of pain in his pelvis caused by the incident.
The family kindly believes that this was an accident, but they hope that the driver comes forward soon. If anything, it'll give the situation some closure.
