Escaped Murderer Danelo Cavalcante Finally Caught After 13 Days At Large

On August 31, 2023, Danelo Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison in Pennsylvania. Almost two weeks later, he was captured in South Coventry Township in Chester County, on September 13. Cavalcante was serving a life sentence for murdering girlfriend, Deborah Brandão.

Cavalcante originally escaped by crab-walking up a wall and pushing through razor wire. He was able to evade capture for 13 days. He attempted to get assistance during this time and stole a car and gun.

On Wednesday morning, just after midnight, authorities were told a burglary alarm was going off in their search area. This brought the investigation close to where Cavalcante was located. Authorities used a helicopter that spotted a heat source on the ground.

A tactical team secured the area. A storm took the helicopter out of the mix for a while, but it was soon back in action. The team was able to surround an unsuspecting Cavalcante, who tried to bear-crawl through the underbrush, but it was too late. A police dog was sent in to find him. The dog bit Cavalcante to subdue him, causing minor injuries.
