Demi Moore has had to share some words of comfort with her kids as they deal with Bruce Willis' dementia diagnosis, and now she's sharing that advice with the world. In an appearance on Good Morning America on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, she gave an update on her ex-husband's condition.
Bruce's family shared a statement in February 2023, explaining that they had a clear diagnosis of his condition, which was frontotemporal dementia. Since then, his condition has only gotten worse and his family continues to openly share his journey.
"I think given the givens, he’s doing very well," Demi shared. She then proceeded to talk about the advice she's given her three children that she shares with Bruce: 29-year-old Tallulah Belle Willis, 32-year-old Scout LaRue Willis, and 35-year-old Rumer Glenn Willis.
"What I’ll share is what I say to my children, which is, it’s important to just meet them where they’re at and not hold on to what isn’t, but what is," she said. "Because there’s great beauty and sweetness and loving and joy out of that."

Emma Heming Willis, Bruce's current wife and caregiver, has also spoken out about how she's helping their kids through this time. She shares two kids with the actor: 9-year-old Evelyn and 11-year-old Mabel.
"Listen, I think my kids would be great no matter what and this is not what I would want for them," she said in a 2023 interview. "But really, like I said, it’s teaching them so much — how to care and love — and it’s really a beautiful thing amongst the sadness."
In a 2021 interview with People, Rumer opened up about Demi and Emma's co-parenting skills. "I'm incredibly grateful that both of my parents have made such an effort my entire life that I never felt like I had to choose between them," she said.
"I have a lot of friends who grew up with parents who got divorced at a young age and I watched their parents, like, pit them against each other or have to choose between holidays," she continued. "And I didn't have to do that, and I feel so grateful that my parents made it such a priority that we could be a family, even though it looked different."
In Demi's interview with Good Morning America, she spoke to families dealing with a loved one with dementia. "When you let go of who they've been, or who you think they [are], or who even you would like them to be, you can then really stay in the present and take in the joy and the love that is present and there for all that they are, not all that they're not," she said.
Bruce and Demi were married from 1987 to 2000. He and Emma wed in 2009 and she continues to be his primary caregiver.
