Families are like snowflakes: one can never be exactly the same as another, which is exactly what makes each one so precious. Whether you're born into it or brought in through other circumstances, all that matters is the unconditional love found between every member.
The Dennehy family clearly has plenty of that love to go around. After having three children naturally, mom Sharon and dad Mike found themselves traveling the world to bring home children in need of a safe, loving home. Africa, Thailand, China, India: no place was too far for their hearts to reach.
Their first adopted son, George, came to them after being born in Romania without any arms. As he explains in the video, it was considered a "curse" in his community, and at 14 months, he was so poorly cared for that he only weighed 9 pounds. Thankfully, that's when Sharon saw his photo and gave him a new chance at life. Shown playing piano in their home, George was soon surrounded by eight more siblings, all from similarly heartbreaking backgrounds, who now never have to worry about feeling accepted and cherished.
When asked what family meant to them, the children reflect on their home and respond with "fun," "interesting," "awesome," and "something that I can count on." While others discouraged their parents from bringing home so many children with special needs, Sharon and Mike knew the most important need of all was unconditional love.
