Holy moly! I knew Sammy Davis Jr. was a musical legend, but I never knew he could tear it up on the drums quite like this! Here he is, way back in the day — January 6, 1963, to be exact, on the Ed Sullivan show. Known primarily as a singer and dancer, who knew he was a drumming master?
An integral part of the Rat Pack alongside Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, it's no wonder artists like Michael Jackson looked up to Sammy so much. He may have been small in stature, but Sammy Davis Jr. was a HUGE talent (and one cool cat, of course.)
On May 18, 1990, two days after Davis's death, the neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip were darkened for ten minutes as a tribute to him. He was survived by his spouse, his daughter, his sons, his sister, his mother and his grandmother.
