I have never been very good at arts and crafts. Every time I get an invitation to one of those paint and sip parties, I typically decline. I'm always happy to sip on a glass of wine, but nobody needs to see my sad excuse for art.
Sadly, crafting is just one of those things that's never come easily to me. I'm always amazed when I get the chance to witness a DIY-er at work. The way they're able to put projects together, piece by piece, they make it look so easy!
I'm particularly envious when I see the amazing things DIY-ers can create for their homes. Interior decorating is fun, but it can get costly! DIY-ers definitely have the upper hand when it comes to using materials they may already have lying around their home to make unique pieces.
This simple rainbow lamp project from Instructables was created with a few common household tools, and it looks like the type of project even I could attempt!

Penelopy Bulnick, a savvy DIY-er, decided she wanted to add a bit of color to her home.
Gathering supplies was pretty simple. All she needed was a lampshade, ribbon, scissors and a hot-glue gun!
Bulnick started by dismantling the fabric part of the lampshade, leaving only the wire structure behind.
This is what she'll be wrapping the colorful ribbon around for her project.
Next, she wrapped the frame in all white ribbon.
These pieces of wire would show through, so she wanted it to look nice and uniform with the white color.
She made sure to wrap each corner tightly to keep the look consistent and reduce any bumps in the colorful ribbon.
After that, she included some added support.
These additional white ribbons would add structure and keep the colorful ribbons from twisting when she began wrapping them up the lamp.
To begin the wrapping process, she started by gluing her ribbon to the outside of one bottom corner.
To avoid any gaps, she overlapped the first colorful ribbon slightly over the top of the white ribbon.
Keeping the ribbons taught, she put a dab of glue on each corner as she worked around.
Slowly, she moved upward, overlapping each ribbon slightly as she went.
Each edge needed a bit of time to dry.
Initially, it did look like a gluey mess on the corners.
Bulnick suggested that if you're giving this project a try, you could even lay a piece of contrasting colored ribbon down the length of the edges to hide the glue.
As soon as she reached the top, she was done with her colorful project!
This DIY lamp is easy to create if you have the patience, and it adds a beautiful touch to any home.
