Give Your Pup or Cat The Royal Treatment With This Stunning DIY Pet Bed

There's no better way to wind down the day than snuggling with my favorite canine companion on the couch.

With all they do for us, we can return the favor by keeping our pets as happy and healthy as possible, whether that means buying them a new favorite chew toy or taking steps to monitor and treat their arthritis.

And when I discovered this adorable DIY pet bed, I knew it'd be a fantastic way for me to treat my pup to a luxurious night's sleep.

I found this DIY project from Beth on her blog Make Me Pretty Again, where she cleverly crafted a royal-themed cushioned mini bed out of an old vintage table. With just a few bits of hardware and an inexpensive Craigslist find, Beth created one of the most comfortable and creative pet beds I've ever seen!

Our crafty DIY-er started with a vintage side table she bought inexpensively off of Craigslist.

The door to the vintage piece was practically falling apart, so Beth added an extra piece of wood and a fresh bracket.

She raised the soon-to-be doggy bed by purchasing table legs at her local hardware store and nailing them to the bottom of the piece.

Afterward, Beth stained the legs with an ebony dye, sanded them down, and finished them with a store-bought shellac.

For the interior, Beth used a red primer and then gave it a satin finish in Rustoleum's "colonial red."

Beth gave the exterior an initial base coat of grey chalk paint and sanded the entire piece.

She then applied several coats of gorgeous teal chalk paint that she made herself, with a mixture of Plaster of Paris and Behr paint.

She also recommends using a layer of wax in between the chalk paint to give your piece a shinier finish.

Using a wet rag, she coated this adorable pet bed with a Martha Stewart glazing medium.

Beth added a homemade cushion, and her DIY pet bed was all ready to be lounged in!

The best part of this mini bed is that it can be easily hidden away from guests.

Once the doors are closed, the bed flawlessly doubles as an ordinary table.
