Dr. Patricia Quinlan was on a flight from Philadelphia to San Francisco in 2015, just before Thanksgiving, when duty called.
A 59-year-old man had collapsed and fallen out of his seat, and he wasn't getting up.
Patricia was hoping that he had just fallen asleep but knew that the matter was much more serious. The doctor jumped to action, using the plane's defibrillator to find out that the man's blood pressure was dangerously low and that his heartbeat was irregular, in addition to being dehydrated.
She further deduced that, thankfully, there was no sign of a blockage. With limited resources on the plane, she had to get creative, using what was at her disposal to revive him.
When she figured out that the plane was missing some crucial medical equipment, she resorted to whiskey, a hair tie, and a belt.

Dr. Patricia Quinlan was traveling from Philadelphia to San Francisco when a passenger suddenly fell ill and couldn't be revived.

With the help of fellow passengers, she came up with a plan to revive him after deducing that he was suffering from low blood pressure and dehydration.

She used a hair tie, whiskey, and a belt to prep the IV for the unconscious man.

She used the whiskey to disinfect the needle.

A passenger offered her a belt to use as a tourniquet, but it was too big. She used one of her hair ties instead.

It took about 20 minutes to reive him!

Thanks to Doctor Quinlan, the man was able to walk off the plane when it landed in San Francisco.

Many people are applauding her creativity in the face of such a challenge. She's even earned the nicknames "Doctor Angel" and "Doctor MacGyver!"
