This 82-Year-Old Is Taking A Road Trip Into The Arctic. When You Hear Him Explain? OMG

Don McIntyre and his wife, Dorothy, loved to travel together more than anything. They were inseparable for so many years that when Dorothy passed away, 82-year-old Don felt like his life was over, too.

McIntyre told CBC News, "I can't stand sitting in malls, watching the young matrons walking by. There's got to be something more than that." The retired Canadian widower knew his wife would be rolling over in her grave if he spent the remainder of his golden years dwelling on the past.

Since the travel lover has never been north of his home in Whitehorse, BC, he decided to visit the one place he and Dorothy always wanted to see: Tuktoyaktuk, NT. However, the former insurance adjuster knew that taking the nearly 5,000-mile trip on a whim was a little crazy. That's when it struck him: "I thought I might be able to raise a little money for the cancer society," McIntyre told CBC.

His goal is to raise $25,000 before his February 1st departure to honor Dorothy, who passed away from lung cancer in 2013. Although some family members are worried about the senior's trek into the arctic, he told CBC that's part of the reason he wants to go is "because it's hard." He wants to pay tribute to his wife's adventurous spirit…and not give up on his own.
