Elephant Loves Smashing And Snacking On Giant Pumpkins At The Taronga Zoo

Elephants are one of the most fascinating creatures we have roaming our planet. If their giant bodies weren't already impressive on their own, their equally massive intellects make these gentle giants even more special. Along with other smarty-pants animals like certain primates and dolphins, elephants have traits of self-recognition and cognition that not only make them unique among other critters they find in the wild, but also allows them to actually develop their intelligence by learning and using tools.

They are also known to have a wide range of emotions, everything from happiness while they play around together to sadness as they mourn the loss of family members. The cutie in the video below is definitely all smiles and joy when he finds two large pumpkins waiting for him in his enclosure at the Taronga Zoo in New South Wales, Australia. His name is Luk Chai and the 6-year-old is clearly a mega-fan of squishing the large veggies into a pulp with his huge feet.

The gourds were donated to the zoo by a local fair that was glad to see the food going to good use. On top of enjoying himself, handsome Luk Chai is also exercising his problem-solving skills with every silly stamp of his foot. His buddy Pathi Harn, however, doesn't seem all that interested in the activity until it's time to chow down on the yummy snack. Fortunately for him, Luk Chai doesn't seem to mind sharing!
