Plus-Size Model Is Floored When Agent Demands She Lose Or Gain 50 Pounds

Nowadays, when we think of models, we no longer necessarily think of the traditional fashion models from several decades ago.

Most of us know that, just as regular people come in all shapes and sizes, so do the fashion models of the world.

Plus-size model Elizabeth Taylor (yes, that's her real name, and no, there is no relation to the Hollywood icon) has long dreamed of becoming a successful actress. So she was absolutely thrilled when she received a meeting with one of New York's most prestigious talent agencies.

After impressing them with her work, Taylor awaited the big news — would they take her on as a client, helping to make her dreams of stardom a reality? But absolutely nothing prepared her for the agent's shocking advice.

After years of working on her career, model and actress Elizabeth Taylor was thrilled to have a meeting with one of New York's most successful talent agencies.

But after auditioning for them, she was shocked by the female agent's response.

Taylor describes the head agent's response to the Daily Mail: "'So Elizabeth, here is the deal. You are simply too pretty to be the fat girl, and too fat to be the pretty girl,' the woman said. 'You are going to have to either gain 50 pounds or lose 50 pounds, but we cannot work with you as you are now.'"

This heartbreaking response might be devastating to the average person. After all, being told that the problem isn't your talent, but rather your appearance, could come as a shock to any person.

However, rather than buckle under pressure, Taylor had a strong and beautiful answer for the agent.

The Daily Mail shares her reply: "'Well ladies, I think I'm going to go with door number three and remain myself, taking the long, hard way around,'" she said.

And though she vowed to take the hard road that day, Taylor has been met with great success as a result.

She began working with a different agent, and started modeling clothes for celebrity Melissa McCarthy's new fashion line.

Taylor and McCarthy hit it off both as colleagues and as friends.

Taylor has since appeared in photo shoots and on the Home Shopping Network alongside McCarthy, embracing her role as a plus-size model, comfortable in her own skin.

Taylor's work with McCarthy has been instrumental in her growth as a person.

She tells the Daily Mail of McCarthy's fashion line, "I said to her: 'You know Melissa, this is taking all my years of fat-girl shame away from me. I might just try wearing jeans again. These are so good.' I looked up and her lip was quivering and her eyes were filling up.'"
