When we're young, our parents try to teach us the right way to eat in order to properly nourish our bodies with all the vitamins and nutrients it needs. There's nothing wrong with treating oneself to a treat or two once in a while, but overindulging can lead to a host of health problems, including weight gain.
Alicia Briggs, 24, admits that she used to be a fast food addict, gorging on takeout meals since she was a child. Her mother, who was overweight, never taught her that this was bad for her. She piled on the pounds and was endlessly teased in school. At her heaviest, she weighed 271 pounds.
In March 2016, doctors told her that she might become infertile because of polycystic ovary syndrome linked to her weight. That's when she decided to lose the pounds for good.
Her journey started with weight-loss surgery and continued with her change of habits. She also started exercising.
Now, Alicia is 38 pounds lighter than what she was at the age of 10 and almost half her starting weight!

Alicia Briggs struggled with her weight her entire life. The more she was teased by her classmates as a young girl, the more she binged on fast food.

She thought that she was going to stay her size forever and never believed she could be a weight-loss success story.

Then, in March 2016, her doctors told her that her weight was putting her at risk for infertility. Tipping the scale at 271 pounds, she knew that she had to change.

She started with weight-loss surgery and changed her ways. She started eating healthier and exercising.

Slowly but surely, the pounds came off. Now, she weighs 160 pounds: that's 38 pounds lighter than her weight at the age of 10, and almost half her starting weight!

Alicia's transformation is ongoing. She feels better than ever, but she's also saving money to pay for skin-removal surgery after her extreme weight loss.
