A week before she was due, Amanda Manning unexpectedly started feeling contractions. But, the mother-to-be wasn’t able to make it to the hospital in time.
“[The contractions] were like 15, 20 minutes apart so I didn’t think anything of it,” she told FOX 2 in the video below. “Then they got really close together, really, really quick.”
Manning, who was traveling with her aunt that day, had no choice but to deliver the baby on the spot. She certainly happened to be in the right place at the right time: the driveway of the Lincoln Park Fire Department in Detroit.
Firefighters often risk their lives to save people from house fires, and sometimes even put their lives on the line for animals. Believe it or not, many firefighters also have experience delivering babies in times of need, like the two who quickly came to Manning’s aid.
Weeks later, Manning paid the heroes a visit and they were reunited with the baby girl they helped deliver. Just wait till you see the heartwarming moment at the 1:07 mark when the firefighters hold the baby in their arms.
“Right now, it is kind of overwhelming just to see her now all cleaned up,” said one firefighter Dennis Gratopp.
