Single Mom With Sick Baby Facing Eviction Is Saved When Local News Airs Her Story

Misty Garrett isn't trying to game the system. She's not trying to get away with not paying her rent. The thing is, her baby boy has a serious heart condition. Garrett was forced to quit her job after he had open-heart surgery to take care of him around the clock.

Both the medical bills and rent were piling up. The family was now facing eviction. Worse even, her car broke down. All she wanted was to take care of her son.

Fox decided to air a story about the struggling mother on the news. Once the segment was shown, literally the same night, the Phoenix mom's life was changed. The community was more than willing to rally around her.

"Since last night, we have had donors come through and give amounts anywhere from 20 to 115 dollars a piece," Garrett said with gratitude. "That has taken so much stress off. I can worry about other things. I can take care of them without having to make phone calls every day and ask people to help."

A local car repair shop even offered to fix her car totally for free. The owner, Jason Holleman, felt like he may not have been able to give money, but this was something he knew he could do.

"It's just something I knew I was able to provide and actually be able to do something. I don't get to help out a whole lot, you know, especially with strangers, but just being a lady in need and helping a baby that needed help, just thought I could try to do what I could," Holleman said.

The local Hard Rock Cafe even volunteered to host a fund-raiser for the mother. Sometimes, it takes a village to get one person through a difficult situation, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

"I can say thank you, but thank you is not strong enough of a word for what they've done," she said.
