Stuck at home with your kids? Being indoors with them for a prolonged period of time can be pretty amazing, especially if you typically have to commute to work and miss out on milestone moments. But it can also be really tough. Kids are very energetic and social creatures. Adults, on the other hand, are already handling a lot right now aside from tantrums and meltdowns. Many of us are wondering whether or not our companies can recover from everything that's happening.
It's reasons like this as to why Disney+ released Frozen II via streaming and DVD earlier than expected. Disney knew it would make the kids happy (and give their parents a couple of hours off).
Disney isn't alone. In general, now's a really good time to check out all of the free stuff available for kids that you may be eligible for, in terms of distractions and entertainment. It's a sweet reminder that we're all in this together, and that there's still so much we can look forward to. Here are 10 of the best deals and freebies you won't want to miss.
Free Kids Meals at Burger King
I'm going to be honest: I've always preferred Burger King among fast-food choices. There's something about the Whopper Junior that I've always craved. And now that it has the Impossible Burger, stopping by Burger King has been even more tempting.
In order to help families that might be tight on money or food, Burger King has announced that it's offering free Kids Meals with any purchase. All you need to do is make sure you order your food through its app. This deal is also only available for drive-through and pick-up orders.
Free Acces to Caribu
Curious about Caribu? It's a service that allows families to virtually connect and play games together. It also lets you read books together, making it essential if your children have a lot of long-distance cousins whom they miss spending time with. Typically, it costs $7 a month to access the service. Now, and for a limited time, it's free to access. And according to WWLP News, Caribu won't even ask you for your credit card.
Free Plays and Musicals
If your kids are into theater, now's the time to introduce them to some of the classics. Famous plays such as Cats, The Sound of Music, and The King and I are available through BroadwayHD's seven-day free trial. So you have only a week to binge — but that's still be a lot better than staring out a window.
Subscription costs aren't much if you realize you absolutely love the service, or if your kids are interested in seeing more. Plans start at $8.99 a month at the end of your trial.
Zoo and Aquarium Live Cams
Zoos and aquariums might be closed, but that doesn't mean your kids can't get a good sneak peek at some of the animals. The San Diego Zoo has a large number of cameras, including a baboon cam, a koala cam, and a penguin cam.
The Blue Cavern Aquarium also has a great cam of its fish, which is absolutely mesmerizing. It may not be the same as going to the exhibit itself, but it's a live-action option to help fuel your child's love of animals.
Free Audible Stories
During this time period with kids out of school, Audible — which is owned by Amazon — thought it would be a great idea to offer free audiobooks for kids.
"For as long as schools are closed, we will be open,” the company said, per WFLA. "Keeping to our founding belief that the spoken word can be inspiring and transporting in deeply intimate ways, we have created Stories.Audible.com — a place where anyone, in any country, can enjoy unlimited streaming of hundreds of titles for kids and families for free."
Scholastic Learn at Home
Schools and Scholastic go hand in hand. The company, known best for bringing us Clifford and the book fairs that inspired many of us to read, is offering a ton of great resources for parents who are currently homeschooling their children. Scholastic's Learn at Home program is something everyone should check out.
The program itself covers 20 days, which is a lot. Scholastic is truly a trusted name that you can count on when it comes to learning.
Free Junior Frosty From Wendy's
When was the last time you had a Frosty at Wendy's? The dessert is a staple with the brand and a great pick-me-up. Which is something all of us kinda, sorta need right now.
Wendy's is giving out a free junior-sized Frosty with your drive-through order. Both vanilla and chocolate are available. It's a nice gesture — and also a great reason to stop by Wendy's for dinner tonight.
Free Kids Shows on Amazon
There are many great reasons to sign up for Amazon Prime. Its selection of free movies and television is just one of them. But if you haven't signed up yet, just know that you can sample some of the selections right now for free.
Your kids can watch shows like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow, Arthur, and Pete the Cat, all without paying for membership.
Free Games
Certain sites are also waiving fees for their games during this time. One of those free games is Drawful 2, which is available just for a limited time.
"To put it mildly, this is a difficult time for everyone," Jackbox Games wrote on its website. "The silver lining has been seeing so many people sharing our games while on video calls with family and friends. Our games have always been about bringing people together and the fact that they are being played in this way to help people cope is comforting. We want to help make it easier for people to experience these moments of connection and happiness during a dark period. For this reason, we’ve decided to give away Drawful 2 for free for the next three weeks."
Free Delivery
Certain chains, such as KFC, Chipotle, and Denny's, are giving customers free delivery. It may not seem like a lot, but if these were your go-to destinations for comfort food, a familiar dinner may mean a lot to your kids.
In fact, you probably never figured that you could even get Denny's food delivered to your home. But right now, these chains realize that delivery is a great way to keep their name alive. Since restaurants can no longer offer dine-in service, it just makes sense (both financially and health-wise) to bring the food you crave to your door. Treat yourself.
