Zookeepers Dress Up In Gorilla Suits To Raise A Rejected Baby

A poor baby gorilla named Kamina was rejected shorty after her birth. It's a devastating occurrence that sometimes occurs in the animal kingdom, as we've seen from a baby elephant named Ellie who was rescued by an orphanage in South Africa.

But like Ellie, Kamina was also given hope thanks to some caring vets.

Zookeepers at the Cincinnati Zoo did all they could to ensure the 4-month-old's healthy growth. They also dressed up in gorilla suits so that little Kamina could learn to be around her own kind rather than humans. They even went as far as to mimic gorilla voices.

It was all in preparation for Kamina to be adopted by another gorilla mama, but that wasn't able to happen at the Cincinnati Zoo, so she was moved to the Columbus Zoo.

"When Cincinnati Zoo gorillas did not show interest in caring for Kamina, the Gorilla Species Survival Plan (SSP) made the recommendation to relocate her to the Columbus Zoo," the zoo wrote in a press release. "The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is a pioneer in gorilla surrogacy and has introduced 14 surrogate infants to adult female gorillas; including five coming from other zoos. With the addition of Kamina, the Columbus Zoo currently has 17 endangered lowland gorillas, which are managed in conjunction with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)."
