Lynn Hampson gave birth to her first baby, Logan. At first he seemed happy and healthy, but then a few days later, he turned "Bart Simpson yellow." The concerned mother brought him to the hospital, where blood work revealed his liver was about to fail, a diagnosis no parent wants to hear. When Logan needed a liver donor, Lynn knew she would do what any mother would do.
"I felt that I needed to do it. That I couldn't get the process started soon enough," Lynn says. The transplant was a success. Today, the mother and son share scars of their beautiful bond. Still, the Hampsons' journey was far from over. A few years after Logan recovered, they decided to have another baby. Things seemed fine, but when Lynn gave birth to her daughter Alyson, it was déjà vu. The baby girl quickly became sick and required a liver transplant. This time, it would be Daddy who saved his daughter's life.
"My first thoughts were, I don't want to do this again… I needed to do it. I saved my child's life and I am able to hold her and put her to bed," said Alyson's father, Jason. Thanks to Mom and Dad, Alyson and Logan have both fully recovered.
