He Says He Loves Jesus But Hates Religion. I Was Shocked, But When I Kept Listening? POWERFUL!

In times of difficulty, faith in a higher power can be the only thing that brings us comfort.

Hardship may follow, but for millions of people, these obstacles mean little in the larger scheme of things, for Christians know someone is always looking out for them.

But what happens when you feel as though your belief system directly contradicts itself? How do you parse through the contradictions and discover the truth you need to find peace?

Can you separate Jesus from religion? Can you separate your faith form the church? Can you love Christianity but question the institution?

For Jefferson Bethke the answer became clear: Religion was making it difficult for him to believe in Jesus.

In the video below, he explains how it's possible to believe in Jesus while not believing in religion. It's a controversial line of thinking, definitely — but if you listen carefully, it may make you rethink some ideas you've never thought too deeply about. And not only does Bethke bring up some very interesting points — he does it in such a unique way! The video really is proof of his way with words. In fact, I had to watch this video twice: once to understand what he was saying, and then again to appreciate how he was saying it.

When Martin Luther wrote the Ninety-Five Theses and defied the belief that one needed the church to believe in Christ, he was ridiculed, but without his radical thinking, we wouldn't have Protestantism.

Everyone has a different way of observing their faith — this is Jefferson Bethke's way.
