Sleep is essential to our health and well-being. That's why it's important to get at least eight hours of sleep a night, so you can wake up refreshed and ready to take on the world. But falling asleep isn't always that easy. If you've ever found yourself tossing and turning for hours, you'll know the struggle is real. But here are seven tips to help find that sweet slumber.
YouTube user HouseholdHacker provides useful information that can make you fall asleep faster.
- As if there was any doubt, cuddling with a pet can help you fall asleep faster. According to research, hugging your dog or cat actually reduces cortisol and stress, and in turn will help you drift into a deep sleep. Dogs really are a gift from God.
- Read a book before bed instead of getting on your computer. Research indicates that starring at a computer monitor two-to-three hours before bed suppresses melatonin. It’s important to avoid bright screens from cell phones or computers if you have an early morning meeting.
- Place your alarm clock far away from your bed, so you have to get out of bed to turn it off. Because you’re already out of bed, you can jumpstart your day.
- Distractions in the bedroom are one of the main causes of sleeplessness. If you have a computer or cell phone, you should place them outside the bedroom. This will help you sleep better.
- Based on many sleep studies, it’s been shown that the optimal temperature to fall asleep is between 65-72 degrees F. The easiest way to achieve this is with a heater or air conditioner.
- If you had a bad night of sleep, make a cup of coffee in the morning and ice it down for quick consumption. After your drink it, hit the couch for 15-20 minutes for a power nap. When you awaken, you’ll have the dual benefit of a caffeine rush and a power nap.
- If you’ve been tossing in bed, make yourself a warm glass or milk or chamomile tea. This will raise your body temperature and ease you into dreamland.
