Panda Mama Breaks Record After Giving Birth To Two Chubby Cubs

A panda spends about two-thirds of its day eating, while the rest of their time is spent resting. Sounds like the perfect life! Where do I sign up to live the panda lifestyle?

While pandas spend most of their time eating, their diet mainly consists of bamboo. So, they aren't as heavy as you might think! The female panda can weigh anywhere from 150 to 280 pounds.

One pregnant panda at the Bifengxia Panda Base in Ya'an, China, just made history! The new mama gave birth to the heaviest panda cubs ever recorded. Zoo officials say that the heavy babies are actually a sign that Mom was very healthy during her pregnancy.

Typically, panda cubs are born weighing between 3.2 and 4.6 ounces. It is very rare for cubs to be born weighing over 6.4 ounces, according to Chinese media.

Xidou gave birth to a not-so-little set of twins, a boy and a girl. The male cub weighed 6.4 ounces, while his sister weighed a whopping 7.8 ounces. The cubs have yet to be named.

In the video below, you can see the moment Xidou and her cubs make history! The birth only lasted about 30 minutes before a zoo official went in to collect the babies to be weighed. Mom and the cubs are doing great now!
