Without a doubt, battery cages are the worst and most cruel form of factory farming.
Egg-laying hens spend just about their entire lives in cages barely bigger than their own bodies. They can't extend their wings, and they have no room to move around. Can you imagine spending your entire life like this? Any human would go insane — and sadly, that's exactly what happens to these poor hens.
Fortunately, the following video gives us a tiny glimmer of hope for these tortured animals. In the video posted to YouTube by Hen Anderson, we see 56 hens rescued by the Battery Hen Welfare Trust in Chulmleigh, U.K. come out of the horrible nightmare they've known their whole life and embrace freedom.
For the very first time in their lives, these hens are able to move around, interact with other hens, see the sun, and breathe in the fresh air. Their incredible rescue is amazing progress, but there is still much more we can do.
Please SHARE this video to help teach others about the horrors of battery cages…and hopefully inspire more rescues!
