Now, I've written about the impressive and humongous Hercules beetle before, but the video below is absolutely jaw-dropping!
Hirofumi Kawano of Japan is an insect enthusiast who particularly loves Hercules beetles. He studies them, and shot this stunning video of the life and growth of one of these amazing creatures.
And what a shocking growth it is!
As one of the largest insects on Earth, the Hercules beetle is truly impressive to see in its fully matured form, but I never knew it could start off so small!
The video begins with a shot of Hirofumi's open hand.
A tiny hatching egg sits in the center of his palm.
If you look at it quickly enough, the egg is so small that you just might miss it!
But that's the only part of the video you might miss — because the growth of this beetle is truly something to behold!
He then films the beetle as he reaches his larval stage — still pretty small, but you can already get the sense that something big is on the horizon.
The beetle's third stage, though, is where things begin to get shocking — he's almost bigger than Hirofumi's hand!
