There are many circumstances that can cause a family to tear apart. Unfortunately, this is a reality for many families whose members suffer from substance abuse. As time goes by, some of the children in those families find themselves in foster care or living in extreme poverty. Some are even abandoned and forced to fend for themselves without any direction in life, or an adult to guide them. This is how the unfortunate cycle repeats itself: the mistakes of the father are repeated by his children.
That seemed to be the case with Drew Wilson, who hasn't seen his father, Sanders, since he was 17 or 18 years old. Sanders was an alcoholic, and didn't get along with Drew's mother.
Years later, Drew ended up in a homeless shelter. His difficult childhood and teenage years led him down a similar path as his father's.
At the Pettigrew Emergency Shelter in Omaha, he sat down for a meal. As he was minding his own business, another man sat right next to him. That's when he looked up and recognized the man's face… it was his father!
