Are you ready for an amazing story to start your week off right? As a lifelong dog-lover, this one really had me by the heartstrings.
Ryan Roff is a U.S. Army Veteran who was separated from his best friend, an 8-year-old Australian Shepherd named Lexis, after he entrusted her to some acquaintances. But, like in the story of Joshua and Duke, through some truly remarkable twists of fate, he was able to find her again!
Roff was homeless, living with Lexis on the streets of Plant City, FL. He wanted to build a better life for himself and for his canine companion, so he decided to enroll in a long-haul truck driving program in nearby Lakeland.
Though his course was specifically for truckers who want to bring dogs on the road, Roff wasn’t allowed to keep a pet in the free housing available to veterans. He decided to ask some friends to care for Lexis while he completed the program.
The only hitch? Three months later, when a newly licensed Roff returned to pick up Lexis, he discovered that she had disappeared several weeks prior. His friends had neglected to inform him that his long-time companion was gone.
It’s not totally clear how Roff’s friends mislaid Lexis, but it seems to be combination of neglect and a dognapping scenario like this one. Fortunately, the enterprising veteran had no intention of giving up.
Roff reached out to local news station ABC Action News to see if they could help. They spread the word, and thanks to the long arm of social media, got a tip on Lexis’ whereabouts in just a few hours. Now, they can also help you donate funds to Roff's cause.
