Dad Transforms Toddler Bed Into An Awesome Little Kid’s Playroom

Back in 2014, Eric was trying to encourage his son to trade in his convertible toddler bed for a big-kid bed. Not only was his son getting older, but the toddler bed was needed for his little sister. Eric's son finally agreed — but only if he would get the "most awesome bed ever" in return. However, the ideal big-kid bed was outside of Mom and Dad's budget. So, Eric decided to try his hand at an IKEA hack — meaning any modification or repurposing of an IKEA product.

IKEA's Kura Bed is reasonably cheap and simple to assemble, and it's designed to have interchangeable parts to support multiple layouts. After much brainstorming, Eric came up with the perfect plan for his son's brand new bed. In the video below, watch this doting dad transform the Kura Bed by adding a secret room, slide, pulley, and ball run.

To address some of the more common safety concerns, Eric notes:

  • The rope is removed when his son is playing by himself.
  • The posts at the bottom of slide have been sawed down and rounded since this video was filmed.
  • The electric socket is no more dangerous than any other socket in the house.
  • An adult can disassemble the bed within seconds if he is stuck inside.

What kid wouldn’t absolutely love this?!
