Actress Jane Fonda Attends March Against Climate Change

More than 10,000 protesters took to the streets of Toronto, Canada on Sunday to march against climate change, marking the largest of its kind in the nation’s history. Two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda was one of them.

Like actor Robert Redford, who gave a speech about climate change at the United Nations in June, Fonda also spoke passionately at the March for Jobs, Justice, and the Climate. The crowd cheered her on.

“They are saying we don’t have to change between the environment and the economy. That is a false choice. In fact, renewable energy, doing away with a fossil fuel based economy will create more jobs, more Democracy and more justice,” The Morning After actress told marchers.

The concerns of these protesters varied. Some called for increasing minimum wage and affordable housing. Others asked for an end to fossil fuel divestment and a focus on renewable energy as well as accessible public transportation.

As seen in the video below, many marched with signs, including one that read, “Jobs. Justice. Climate Action.”

"I'm here because I think that the coalition that is represented in today's march and rally, and not just today but ongoing in Canada – First Nations, labor unions, working people, students — this is the kind of coalition that will make the difference," Fonda also told Toronto’s CP24.
