Jennifer Phillips Wows On ‘X Factor’ With An Incredible Gospel Performance

When it comes to reality tv/talent show auditions, it's pretty safe to say that the judges don't always know what's best.

Just check out what happened when notorious stickler Simon Cowell made fun of this church pastor. He completely blew them away! They may not be best at judging a person solely by their appearance, but this next video from X Factor U.K. proves that when it comes to coaching and offering guidance to the contestants, these guys are definitely in the right seats.

Jennifer Phillips was dead set on belting out the Beyoncé hit "Halo" for her audition, but the judges thought she could do better than a song they've heard in dozens of auditions.  Then judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini recommended that she sing the gospel tune "Shackles" by Mary Mary and the rest was history. The judges were blown away by her vocal ability, especially when she shows off her impressive range of talent around the 1:23 mark.

While many singers would have been distraught about changing their performance at the last minute, Phillips proves she was a true pro, as she sounded like she'd been rehearsing for a lifetime. It's funny, because prior to her audition, Phillips had just about given up on singing. She took a break for about eight years as an adult and thought shows like X Factor were only for younger performers.

This amazing performance just goes to show that when you have talent, you're only hurting yourself by holding back. She's such an inspiration!
