This winter, Oregon has been getting some seriously crazy weather. The state in the Pacific Northwest, known for its beautiful views and lush greenery, normally has plenty of snow in the mountains, but relatively little snow in the valley, where its biggest cities are located.
Portland, Salem, and Eugene, three of Oregon's biggest cities, normally have a lot of winter rain, but only a few days of snow. All three cities have experienced huge blizzards this winter, though.
People living in these areas have experienced power outages, travel advisories, and many snow days home from school and work. One man, Joemel Panisa, was snowed in due to a storm, so he decided to make good use of his time and clean out his office.
While he was organizing, he came across a lottery ticket that he had purchased a year before. When he looked up the numbers, he found out that it was a winning ticket — and not just any winning ticket, a $1 million winning ticket.
Joemel was shocked to realize he had won the lottery, but even more surprised when he noticed that the ticket was just eight days from expiration. If it hadn't been for the snowstorm, there's a good chance Joemel never would have found the winning lottery ticket!
While most people who were hit by the brutal snowstorms considered themselves lucky if they could get the car out of the driveway, Joemel now has a completely new understanding of luck.
